Itinerary

Fly to Lisbon.

Arrive at Lisbon Airport and take your private transfer to your hotel.

After checking in, you’ll have plenty of time to explore at your own pace.

Overnight in Lisbon.

After breakfast, check out of your hotel and pick up your car at the city centre rental station and drive to the medieval village of Óbidos, an authentic museum town carefully preserved and surrounded by high walls and winding streets. Proceed to the attractive and picturesque fishing village of Nazaré where you can find  fishermen and women wearing typical multicolored costumes. Have lunch at your leisure.

After, continue to Alcobaça to see the 12th century monastery, one of the most beautiful Cistercian Abbeys of the Middle Ages, or Batalha to visit the 15th century Monastery of Santa Maria da Vittoria, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Head north to Porto where you will spend the night.

After breakfast, spend some time visiting Porto, the second largest city in Portugal, famous for its varied monuments like the neoclassical Stock Exchange Palace, the Cathedral and its Romanesque choir, the Portuguese Manueline-style Church of Santa Clara. Visit a wine cellar and try the famous Porto wine. Have lunch at your leisure. Proceed to Guimarães, the cradle of Portugal and see its unique historical centre, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Continue to Braga, which is one of the oldest religious cities in the world, and known as the Archbishop’s City. Visit the sanctuaries that constitute the faith triangle: the Cathedral and the Sanctuaries of Sameiro and Bom Jesus. Drive to Barcelos, which was the first county in Portugal. Return to Porto driving along the coast and passing Vila do Conde.

After breakfast, depart from Porto to Aveiro and visit the “Portuguese Venice”, the city of the river channels and see the 15th-century Cathedral and the ‘Convento de Jesus’. Have lunch at your leisure at a local restaurant in Aveiro centre.

Proceed to Coimbra and visit the University, one of the oldest in the world, with its magnificent baroque library and its unique atmosphere characterised by ancient traditions and customs such as the black cape of the students and melancholic fado music. See the 12th-century fortified cathedral and the ‘Santa Cruz’ church known by its Manueline main portico. Continue to Fátima, one of the largest pilgrimage centres in Europe with a stop at the Catholic shrine of Our Lady, one of the most famous in the world, where you can see the candlelight procession every night from May 13 to October 13.

After breakfast, leave Fátima and drive to Tomar to see the Castle with its imposing bulwark, then stop at the Convent of Christ–the Templar Order’s own headquarters, one of the finest architectural works in Portugal. Proceed to Castelo de Vide and visit the surrounding quarter of the castle and the synagogue, then continue to Marvão, a small medieval town on a mountain top, with beautiful views over the Alentejo region, and Estremoz, which is famous for its original ceramic handicrafts and medieval castle. Continue to Évora where you will spend the night.

After breakfast, it’s time to explore Évora, a UNESCO World Heritage City. Walk along the narrow streets lined with whitewashed houses. We recommend visiting monuments like the Roman Temple, the Romanesque-Gothic Cathedral, Saint Francis Church and the “Bones Chapel” as well as the university. Along the way, you may also admire the diversity and authenticity of local handicrafts with work, ceramic and copper objects. Have lunch at your leisure, before departing to Lisbon where you will spend the night.

After breakfast, spend your last day visiting the capital city of Portugal: Lisbon, known as the city of seven hills. Start your visit with the Alfama Quarter and Saint George Castle, then stop along the Chiado and Bairro Alto Quarters before heading to downtown Lisbon and the Praça do Comercio square. Continue to see the Belem Tower, Discoveries Monument and the Jeronimos Monastery. Stop for a coffee, and taste the world-famous pasteis de Belem pastry.

In the afternoon, drive to the charming village of Sintra, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that enchanted kings and inspired poets, where you can see the majestic and romantic Pena Palace, located in one of the highest peaks of Sintra’s mountain range. Walk through the town’s narrow streets and appreciate the handicraft shops, then stop at a tea room where you can taste delicious local sweets like queijadas or travesseiros. Continue to Cabo da Roca, the most western point in Europe and enjoy the unique views of the Atlantic Ocean.

Return to Lisbon and pass by Cascais and Estoril. Drop off your car at the city centre’s rental station, then spend the night in Lisbon.
