Charline Fortier – Our Italy Expert
This intimate, worry-free, Italian adventure is designed and hosted by our own Charline Fortier, a Maritime Travel counsellor for more than 40 years. Charline is an expert on all things Italian, and has been to Italy more than 50 times – on her own, with her wine-expert husband, and hosting groups. “I feel more at home in my beloved Italy, than I do in Canada,” she will tell you. Charline loves to share her secrets… whether it’s a favourite restaurant where she’s friends with the owners, the best little gelato shop, or the best shoe store in town. Charline speaks Italian, English and French.

MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 29 – Arrive at Venice Airport. You will be met by a Maritime Travel representative at the international arrivals area. From there, you will be provided a transfer to our hotel in Venice. The balance of the afternoon is yours to rest and rejuvenate. Later this evening we will meet up with Charline at one of her favorite restaurants and enjoy a welcome dinner with wine as we get to know our travelling companions. TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 30 – Following breakfast at our hotel, we will pick up our transfer to Tronchetto, where we will board our private water launch, which will take us to Piazza San Marco for our walking tour of Venice. You will see the Piazza San Marco, the Basilica San Marco, and the Doges Palace which you will have time to visit later in the day if you wish. This afternoon, join us for a visit to the island of Burano, known for its fishermen and lace-makers. There will be time for lunch on your own, and to explore this lovely island before we head back to San Marco and some more free in time in Venice. We will make our own way back to our hotel. WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 1 – Today we depart Venice and head for Panzano in Chianti, where we will stay in a villa for the next two nights. Once we have settled in, you will have time to explore the property. Tonight we will enjoy a typical Tuscan dinner at a local restaurant. THURSDAY, OCTOBER 2 – Today is a free day to enjoy the beautiful little village of Panzano which is surrounded by olive groves and vineyards for as far as the eye can see. This evening, we will enjoy a private wine tasting on the terrace of our Pensione. La Pensione di Vignamaggio B
FRIDAY, OCTOBER 3 – Following breakfast, we will travel to Florence. We will meet our local guide for a short walking tour, including the Piazza Duomo, Palazzo Vecchio and Piazza della Signoria. Pitti Palace Hotel B
SATURDAY, OCTOBER 4 – Make sure you eat a good breakfast, as this will be our shopping day in Florence. Charline will point you in the right direction and highlight some of the best places for the best prices. Leather, silk, jewelry, shoe stores, handbags, clothing – you will be overwhelmed. SUNDAY, OCTOBER 5 – Our centrally located hotel makes it easy to enjoy another free day exploring the wonderful city of Florence. Meet for supper at Charline’s favorite trattoria. Pitti Palace Hotel B, D
MONDAY, OCTOBER 6 – Today we travel from Florence to Gubbio with our arrival just in time for a light lunch. The balance of your day is free. Gubbio one of the most beautiful Medieval towns in Umbria known for its ceramics and for having been a frequent haunt of St Francis of Assisi. Relais Ducale B L
TUESDAY, OCTOBER 7 – After breakfast we will make our way to the charming, medieval town of Pienza, with its lovely shops, beautiful views, and the historic Palazzo Piccolomini – birthplace of Pope Pius II. WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 8 – Following breakfast, you have a free day to explore anything you may have missed yesterday. The views are incredible and the shopping is just as good! This region is renowned for its roast suckling pig and pecorino cheese. It is a gastronomical delight. Hotel Corsignano B
THURSDAY, OCTOBER 9 – Onwards to Rome! After checking into our hotel, the remainder of the day is free. Tonight, we gather together for a fabulous Roman meal at one of Charline’s favourite restaurants. Mercure Colosseo B D
FRIDAY, OCTOBER 10 – After breakfast, we will meet our local guide for a walking tour of Rome, including St Peters Basilica, Piazza Navona and the Pantheon. The rest of the day is yours to unearth more of what Rome has to offer. Why not toss a coin in the Trevi Fountain, tour the Colosseum or climb the Spanish Steps. The choices are endless! SUNDAY, OCTOBER 12 – This morning we say goodbye to Rome, and make our way to the Amalfi Coast. En route we will visit the fascinating preserved remains of Herculaneum – sister city to Pompeii. Though not as well known, the remnants of this civilization are said to be better preserved than those of Pompeii. We will enjoy a private, guided tour. We will then arrive in the town of Amalfi and check into our hotel. The balance of the day is free for you to enjoy and explore on your own. Hotel La Bussola B
MONDAY, OCTOBER 13 & TUESDAY OCTOBER 14 – These are fabulous free days for you to explore and experience the stunning Amalfi coast. After breakfast each day, get some insider tips from Charline… Go to Ravello, or Positano or Capri (an easy boat ride away), or just sit back on your own and enjoy the lovely beach close to our hotel. Charline has lots of suggestions and tips to point you in the right direction as the possibilities are endless. WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 15 – After breakfast, we will say farewell to the Amalfi Coast and Italy and make our way to Naples Airport to catch our flight back home. B
