She is that great combination of art aficionado and intrepid traveler. She and fellow tour committee member, Marilyn Welland look forward to connecting with old and new friends while exploring the Cabot Trail.

CABOT TRAIL ART EXPERIENCE ITINERARY
 *

SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 22ND –
This morning, we meet in Halifax at the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia on Hollis Street. Meet your tour escorts and board our deluxe coach for an 8:30 a.m. departure. While making out way to Cape Breton Island, we’ll stop near Pictou and visit the renowned Crombie Sobeys Art Collection. We’ll view come of the collection of famous Canadian Impressionists, Group of 7, and international works. There will be time for an optional light lunch nearby. Before arriving at our destination, Mabou, we will stop to visit the Ann Schroeder Studio nearby. You will delight in the beautiful fine-art quilts and hand-dyed scarves. We will then check-in at the Glenora Inn & Distillery, our home for the next two nights. There will be time to relax and to explore the beautiful grounds before we meet up at the Inn for a Welcome Dinner. D

MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 23RD – Following breakfast at the Inn, we will board our coach and head to the nearby town of Inverness. Our destination is the Doug Fraser Art & Sculptural Garden. We will enjoy a guided visit by Doug himself. We’ll enjoy a walk through his sculptural garden, a tremendous view of the ocean, and of course visit his gallery and see what he is working on. Doug paints in oil on canvas and linen. We then take a scenic drive to the beautiful village of Margaree, where we will visit Larch Wood Enterprises and have a guided tour where we will learn how the beautiful “end grain” cutting boards are handmade from eastern Canadian larch wood. Also known locally as tamarack and juniper. There will be time for a light lunch or snack nearby at the Dancing Goat Café and Bakery. We’ll cross the street to visit Two Macs Gallery, dedicated to local artisans and handcrafts - jewelry, pottery, pewter and more. We’ll head back to Mabou with the balance of the afternoon and dinner at your leisure. This evening we’ll take part in a Whiskey Tasting at the Distillery and discover how the popular spirit is made. TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 24TH – After enjoying breakfast at the Inn, we will check out before making our way along the spectacular Cabot Trail seaside route to Grand Etang. Don’t forget your camera! We will experience a taste of Acadian culture at the Mi-Careme Interpretive Centre. The centre promotes the rich tradition of the Mi-Carême fête – a mid-Lent celebration that has been marked in the local area for centuries. It features masks, music and dance, and interactive exhibits. We’ll continue along Cabot Trail to Cheticamp, where the Acadian culture continues to thrive. We visit Les Trois Pignons Museum and Gallery to see a stunning collection of hooked rugs and antiquities. There is also a genealogy resource centre and library. Those who wish can enjoy an optional light lunch or snack at a café next door, or perhaps visit Flora’s Gift Shop to see some local crafts. Our stunning ocean drive along the Cabot Trail continues to Cape North before we make our way to our destination, Ingonish, and Keltic Lodge Resort. After check-in, there will be time to rest, relax and explore the grounds. You may wish to do the nature walk out to Middle Head. This evening we will all meet up in the Main Lodge for a lovely dinner in the Purple Thistle Dining Room. B, D

WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 25TH – This morning, we will enjoy a lovely breakfast before checking out. Get ready for some amazing views as we make our way over spectacular Smokey Mountain and Cape Smokey, on our way to Indian Brook. We’ll visit Colouratura Fine Art Gallery to view their impressive collection of acrylic, oil, watercolor, mixed media, jewelry, pottery and more by 30 different Cape Breton artists. We’ll also stop at nearby Piper Pewter to see some of interesting local creations. We continue on to Baddeck on the Bras d’or Lakes for a White Glove tour at the Bell Museum, a tribute to Alexander Graham Bell’s life and inventions. We will then continue on to Port Hawkesbury and the Canso Causeway for a visit to the Customs House Gallery Shop - the perfect culmination to any Cape Breton art experience. We’ll experience a stunning display of Cape Breton craft in a wide variety of media including pottery, textiles, jewelry, wood, visual art, mixed media, glass and more. We’ll see artists in residences at work in one of the state-of-the-art studios. There will be time for an optional snack or light lunch before we begin making our way back to Halifax for an expected arrival at the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia at 6 p.m., and the conclusion of our tour.
